Gill is a remarkable lady who set up the first RDA group in the area in the mid 1980s. Wookey Hole and Wells group ran successfully for 25 years in which time Gill was continually active both raising funds and helping at the weekly sessions. She transported ponies every week and had a dedicated enthusiasm for any job that needed doing, taking genuine delight in the achievements of the riders. When Wookey Hole and Wells group folded they merged with Burcott group and despite her failing health Gill continued to support in any way she could. Gill's funeral was on a Tuesday, the day we run our sessions. My first thought was to cancel so we could all attend but then I had a very strong feeling Gill would have hated all those riders to miss out on their riding. So we held all our rides on that cold March day in her memory. One of our members attended and came to the yard afterwards to share details of the service with us. I hope Gill would have approved. We were very grateful to receive a generous donation from the collection on that day, in the memory of an inspirational lady who helped set us all on the path to providing the service we do today. Thank you Gill.
